ENTA OUTINGS :

 

We organise a regular series of walks and visits to various attractions in the Greater London area throughout the year.  Members make their own way to the nearest Underground Station where they are met by the organiser.  During the summer months we also organise coach-trips to properties in reasonable distance from Ealing.

 

 

Saturday, 26 June – Kiftsgate Court Gardens, Chipping Camden

 

After lunch in Chipping Camden we will visit these iconic gardens created by three generations of women gardeners.

 

Friday, 2 July – Highgrove – Tour of the garden 

 

HRH The Prince of Wales has spent 30 years transforming parts of the grounds of the Highgrove Estate into one of the most inspired Gardens in the United Kingdom.

 

Saturday, 17 July – Whitechapel Bell Foundry

 

A visit to this world famous Foundry, established in 1570 remains a family business and employs 26 people.  The Liberty Bell and Big Ben were forged here.  The foundry continues to recover peals of old bells.

 

Wednesday, 4th August – Mid Hants Railway & Jane Austen’s House

 

This picturesque railway, a casualty of the Beeching cuts, has been lovingly restored and runs a daily service between Alresford and Alton.  We will also visit the Jane Austen museum at her home in Chawton.

 

Monday, 6 September – Skinners’ Hall

 

This is one of the “Great Twelve” Livery Companies.  It developed from the medieval trade guild of the furriers.  Today, the Company administers its schools, almshouses and charities that contribute mainly to educating the young and helping older people in need.

 

Tuesday, 14 September – Wesley’s Chapel, House and the Museum of Methodism

 

The Chapel was build by John Wesley, founder of Methodism in 1778 and is one of the finest Georgian buildings in London with lovely stained glass windows.  The Museum, deals with the history of Methodism until the present day.

 

Friday, 10 September – Titsey Place and Polesden Lacey

 

Titsey Place estate was bought by Sir John Gresham in 1524 and later inherited by the Levseson Gower Family.  Now owned by the National Trust, it contains fine paintings, furniture and porcelain.  Polesden Lacey is set in beautiful gardens and the house contains Mrs Greville’s collections.
